The Atlas cedar is native to North Africa. In the distant past, it also grew naturally in Europe. It tolerates cold very well and its habit is more upright and slender than the Cedar of Lebanon. Its needles are bluish, its branches are ascending and shorter than those of other cedars, its bark is light gray and cracks with age, and its cones are 6 cm long with a small hollow in the center.
