Phytoembryotherapy is a branch of phytotherapy that specifically incorporates embryonic plant tissues (buds, young shoots, etc.) containing plant meristem cells—undifferentiated, rapidly dividing cells that contain the plant’s genetic blueprint and material. These embryonic tissues are rich in beneficial phytochemical compounds including: plant growth factors and hormones, enzymes, nucleic acids, trace elements, and phytonutrients such as polyphenols and flavonoids. These embryonic tissues are also used because many of the aforementioned components are lost in fully developed plants once chlorophyll is formed. These embryonic tissues are also used because their energetic components are at their highest level when harvested in the spring, the most active phase of the growth cycle.
